This is a course blog authored by the students in the seminar on Law and Theology at the University of Akron School of Law in the Fall of 2010.
http://www.politicsdaily.com/2009/05/13/he-who-casts-the-first-stone/ is a link to a review of The Stoning of Soraya M. This movie is based on a book, which is based on the true story of an Iranian woman stoned to death after being falsely accused of infidelity. The review has a few paragraphs about how Sharia law in Iran in the 1980s had a different standard for men and women accused of infidelity.
I found a law review article that discusses both Islamic law and womens/human rights. Major David J. Western, Islamic 'Purse Strings': The Key to the Amelioration of Women's Legal Rights in the Middle East, 61 A.F. L. Rev. 79 (2008). It seems to give a good overview of the position of Islamic law with respect women's rights.
